mental health
Queer-identified kink- and poly-aware psychologist.
Los Angeles based, able to serve all of California via HIPAA compliment video platform.
Specializing in anxiety disorders, OCD, perfectionism & procrastination, and body-focused repetitive behaviors (hair-pulling, skin-picking). Work from a predominantly cognitive behavioral therapy model integrating mindful self-compassion, mindfulness, and acceptance & commitment therapy.
I am passionate about the work I do with clients and consider each client my teacher. I feel honored to hear their stories.
I am committed to working with populations that by virtue of their gender identity, race, social status, sexual orientations, and diverse life experiences have been subjected to profound lessened life chances that carry with them substantial trauma. It is clients with multiple and complex traumas that I am most invested in helping find balance and self-efficacy. These include: transgender and genderqueer clients; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer clients; Native clients and clients of color; those with complex trauma (including military/war, sexual trauma including childhood sexual abuse); Native clients subjected to ongoing state, colonial, and gender violence; those struggling with dissociative disorders; clients in need of healthy sexuality support (including fetishes, kinks, BDSM, leather community, sex therapy, both with individuals and couples); those with anxiety disorders; clients with chronic illnesses that need help finding acceptance; and those with phase of life problems.
My professional training includes EMDR and as well as training in couples counseling, substance abuse, and motivational interviewing. I also have advanced sexuality training and I can provide sex therapy and sex education to clients. I have a special focus on helping to heal the intersections of sexuality, identity, and trauma where so many of us have been hurt.
I’m a Limited Permit therapist with Steuben County Community Services. My specialty is in the intersection of LGBTQIA+, Polyamory, and/or Kink’s with counseling. I’m trained in Person Centered Therapy and practice using a mix of different counseling styles based on what works best for my clients.
In my undergraduate I received a B.A. in Sexuality Studies with a focus on Adolescent Sexuality and Sexual Education from The Ohio State University. While completing my Master’s at Alfred University I taught a series of extracurricular pleasure positive inclusive sex education sessions. After completing that program I attended the London School of Economics and Political Science where I studied Sexuality where I focused on Kink and wrote my dissertation about the London Rope Community.
As an individual I’ve been involved in various kink communities since around 2015, as such I’m not only kink aware but kink friendly and knowledgeable. If I don’t know your kink, I’m excited to do the research on my own to learn more and make sure you feel comfortable in session.
To schedule with me call the Corning office (number listed below, without extension). You may have to have an intake session with another clinician but you can request me as your counselor. If you are not a resident of Steuben County you may be able to get an exception to use our services. If this is not possible please feel free to email me and I’ll see how I can help.
Who am I and how does this work?
So, how does this work? Well, in short we’re going to talk about how you got to where you are to figure out what is helping you and what is hurting you. We’ll talk about your experiences, memories, thoughts, feelings, and goals related to your concerns to establish exactly what you want out of this process. Then we’re going to use science based tools to help you get where you want to be as efficiently as possible.

Anxiety Disorders
Sometimes life feels overwhelming, and that’s normal. But what about when it feels overwhelming all the time? When you can’t relax, even if you want to? Learn how to tame the anxiety beast and allow yourself to de-stress using tools from a variety of evidence-based therapies.
Women’s Issues
Being a woman can be intensely frustrating and confusing even with all the strides made in gender equality. People tell you when, how, and even if you should have a family. Employers treat you differently. You work twice as hard to get half as far. Your body is a topic of legislation. They way in which you present your woman-ness, the size of your body, the clothes you wear, your sexuality, the way you speak- is under constant critique no matter what you do. There are so many “rules” for how to live and they’re all in conflict and changing constantly. Let’s talk about how YOU want to live your life.
Hello, I’m Ian, and I’d like to give you credit for getting this far in your mental health journey. If we’re a fit, I’d be honored to walk with you for a while.
Whether you are seeking validation or support, behavior or mood change, insight or solace, we can find a method and approach that works for you. I specialize in evidence-based CBT- and ACT-influenced modalities, and also employ methods from the psychodynamic and existential traditions.
I primarily work with adults and multi-person romantic/platonic units, but have experience with people and relationships from every stage of life, from children under 10 to adults over 100. I am fully GSM-celebratory and welcome kink-positive and alternative-lifestylers to my practice. I am male-identified and presenting, and have lived experience in the LGBTQIA+ and kinky communities and pride myself on being celebratory of all lifestyles and maintaining a judgement-free therapy practice.
At this time I am not taking insurance, but I offer a sliding payment scale (from $0 to $110) based on income and household size. My sessions are exclusively telehealth at this time (video or phone); I am accepting clients living in Massachusetts and Maine.
I’m looking forward to working with you. Thanks for coming by today!

I am a psychotherapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, in private practice as a mental health provider. As a member of this community, I know how important it can be to find someone who understands sexual diversity when you are looking for a therapist. All of my services are conducted online through a video platform, so I can provide therapy to anyone in the State of California.
My job is to have hope for people, and I have a passion for assisting others reach their fullest potential in life. I believe all human beings hold inherent worth and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter who you are, where you’ve been, and what you’ve done. You have value, and you matter.
Whatever you’re going through, I am here to support you, without judgment or bias. My approach to therapy is down-to-earth, meeting people where they are through conversation. I view all of my work through a social justice lens. Quality therapy requires full consciousness of the inter-sectional identities and complex stressors that affect our lives.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am a well-trained and experienced mental health provider. I also have a diverse set of work experiences that have shaped how I approach psychotherapy. I am both a Navy Veteran and a former Peace Corps Volunteer, but I spent the early years of my career as a community organizer in Los Angeles.
I have worked with many different populations in various locations, from New York City to Botswana, and I have a total of 4 years’ experience living and working abroad. While studying mental health and therapy at Columbia University in New York City, I had multiple opportunities that allowed me to learn from the best in the field.
My clinical foundation was built on working with adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. I also volunteered my time on a national LGBT youth suicide hotline. After New York, I joined the military to serve as a Naval Officer. I worked as an active duty mental health provider at 5 different duty stations, including two tours as the Director of Mental Health Departments on military installations. During those years, I treated nearly every mental health condition but maintained a specialty in treating issues related to trauma and/or sexuality. Today, I work with a variety of populations, including Veterans, refugees, and sex offenders.
I am a proud Californian. San Diego is home, but I was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. I come from a blue-collar, working-class family. A midwesterner at heart, I completed my undergraduate studies in Psychology at The Ohio State University. Early life experiences shaped my values in compassion, honesty, hard work, and empathy.
I may be a trained clinician, but you are the expert on your life. Therapy is a collaborative process in assisting you to find greater peace in life. It can be hard work, but I’ll help to carry the burden. I look forward to hearing your story.

My personal beliefs & interests
2020 has been a doozy of a year for all of us, and we’ve needed to find ways to cope with pandemic-level stress. In addition to YouTube yoga, sourdough bread-making, and Zoom parties, therapy is an indispensable tool for addressing your mental health needs. My goal is to provide a space to unapologetically be yourself and gain personal mastery.
My approach is:
1. Strengths-based: let’s identify the strengths you already have and use them to accomplish your goals.
2. Client-centered: you know you best! I’m here as a facilitator not a director
3. Evidenced-based: I love to geek out on data and use methodologies based in research.
Therapy is a process. I believe there is no one size fits all solution. As a result, I approach each situation with curiosity and openness. I am here and ready to listen with empathy, ask questions, and suggest therapeutic modalities. Let’s work together to try-on solutions that work best for you.
