Psychotherapist & Acupuncturist

Hi, I’m Sue! I have a Master’s degree in Traditional East Asian Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science and a Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. I have been in practice as an acupuncturist for the last eight years and recently became a licensed social worker. My approach as a therapist has been heavily influenced by my work in Traditional East Asian Medicine. I offer client-centered compassion-based therapy that incorporates methods such as CBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and narrative therapy.

I also provide traditional Chinese style acupuncture as well as motor point/trigger point acupuncture (sometimes referred to as “dry needling”) in addition to cupping, guasha, and moxibustion. I am also a passionate herbalist and have trained in both traditional Chinese herbalism as well as the more commonly used European and North American herbs. In addition to herbs, I enjoy recommending nutritional supplements such as amino acids and vitamins.

I love to use therapy or acupuncture in supporting my clients in their journey to reconcile and heal their bodies and mind. I have worked extensively with trauma survivors, people with chronic illnesses and pain, and LGBTQ2IA emerging adults. I am sex/kink/polyamory-positive, body-neutral, and sex-worker affirming. I strive to acknowledge and to combat the systemic impact of White supremacy, including its relationship to fatphobia, transphobia, and ableism.

I use my own personal experiences dealing with chronic pain and trauma to fuel my compassionate, common-sense approach to treating my clients. My specialties and current interests include chronic pain and illness, trauma recovery, depression and anxiety, body-image and self-esteem, IBS, and autoimmune diseases. I am honored to be working with such a skilled and thoughtful team of healers! I believe that trauma is a story that is written on both the body and mind; it is important to bring the body back to a place of safety in order for the mind to recover. I am so excited to be able to be part of a group that recognizes the importance of a holistic approach to trauma recovery.

Fun fact about me: I am an avid tabletop and video gamer. Since the pandemic started I have been running a series of Dungeons & Dragons and Star Trek Adventures role-playing games with friends from all over the country via Zoom! I also love to cook, garden, and read under a blanket pile with my cat.

We understand that treatment & support can add up and become expensive over time – but the personal and financial costs of delaying or avoiding treatment can be much higher. Instead of focusing on the cost of therapy, consider what the many potential costs are of not going to treatment. Sliding scale fees are also determined by each individual therapist. For individual psychotherapy, to see a certified or licensed clinician, our out-of-pocket sliding scale range from $120 – $180 per session. To see one of our Master’s or Doctorate level interns, the range is $70 – $100 per session. Our psychiatric services, as well as our ADHD evaluations, range between $150 – $200 per session. We offer psychotherapy and psychoeducation group options between $30 – $50 per session. PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE SOMATIC THERAPY RATES Rates depend on the type of service ranging from $30-$150 per individual session or group session. Please inquire with individual practitioners for clarification, as rates vary depending on services. Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for psychotherapy services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services. We recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits: Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits? Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it, and have I met it yet? Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit? Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered? Sliding Scale: We understand that many individuals, couples, and families have a myriad of financial commitments and believe in affordable access to mental health care. Please contact us for more information on our sliding scale options. Payment We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards as forms of payment.
