Kink-Savvy Couple and Family Therapy Services
Sharon is a kink-savvy, license-eligible clinician who works with couples, families, and individuals of all ages. She is available to work with kinksters or lifestylers seeking an open-minded, non-judgmental, and understanding therapist in the Hartford area to sort out individual or relational difficulties. In the summer of 2012, Sharon attended the Community-Academic Consortium for Research on Alternative Sexualities (CARAS), a national conference to present research and promote acceptance of kink/poly/other altsex communities–which her alma mater hosted! Presentation topics included non-consensual abuse in D/s relationships, predictive factors for relationship satisfaction in polyamorous commitments, and even a panel discussion for kink-identified professionals. Sharon completed counseling internships in Chicago-based community mental health and child welfare settings. Following graduation, she worked as a crisis counselor in a public middle school heavily affected by trauma, as a peer counselor in a walk-in LGBTQ community center, and as a therapeutic aide for a preschool classroom. In addition to counseling, Sharon has worked as a writing consultant and offers her clients the option to practice creative writing or journaling in session. She believes writing, or “thought made visible,” can be a powerful tool for psychological and spiritual growth. By using language, she helps clients to see themselves in new ways. Sharon is working toward licensure as a marriage and family therapist and receives supervision for her clinical work.
