Rena McDaniel is the Director of Outreach and Operations for IntraSpectrum Counseling, focusing on extending the reach of IntraSpectrums clinical and psycho-educational services to outside providers and potential clients who may benefit from them. Rena prioritizes building strong connections with other networks of providers across the Chicago-land area so that IntraSpectrum can offer the most comprehensive, integrative and holistic treatment plans for our clients. Rena is also a staff therapist at IntraSpectrum Counseling, providing individual, couples, and group counseling. Rena received her Masters in Community Counseling from DePaul University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Her clinical specializations include sex therapy, trauma and recovery, PTSD, and the LGBTQIA population. Rena has developed a passion for helping folks break down barriers and develop new pathways for pleasure and fulfillment. Her clinical work is informed by Brene Browns Shame Resilience theory, shedding light on the ways shame, vulnerability, and authenticity interact in her clients lives. Her clinical style is warm and collaborative, helping clients locate and build upon the strengths and supports they already have in their lives in order to create meaningful change, while challenging behaviors and thoughts that are no longer working for the client. She completed her clinical internship with Heartland Alliance International-FACES, working primarily with Iraqi, Burmese, and Nepali refugees and torture survivors. She has also worked on the SAGEWorks grant program at the Center on Halsted, creating and implementing a vocational skills curriculum for elderly LGBTQ adults.
