!Queer Trans Poly Kink Knowledgeable Somatic Counselor

Name of Primary Practitioner
Bruin Runyan
Business Excerpt
Now accepting new Skype and phone clients! Being an out queer&trans politicized healer means that I adamantly believe that pathology and healing are completely contradictory. Finding a new therapist who is the right fit can be tricky. Finding a new therapist who you don't have to educate on your identity, your relationship, your life experience or the various institutions that impact your life can be near impossible. You live amidst family and community practices, public and private institutions and broader social norms that support and perpetuate violence and domination. Isn't it critical to have a healer who has a deep analysis of the ways those practices, institutions and norms operate and what it takes to heal within them? As a somatic healer, I use the body because I think it can make us infinitely more successful at changing engrained patterns. Often times as brilliant smart humans, we can describe our own life histories and stumbling blocks to precise detail. Sometimes we can even describe the things we want to be doing instead. However changing patterns and creating new practices seems completely out of reach. For people who survived trauma and oppression, centering our work in the body will also give you information about how to live in the present moment. You will build capacity to recover from hardwired survival strategies like fight, flight, freeze that often put the needs for safety and survival at odds with the needs for connection. You will never be able to think your way out of trauma but the body gives us other strategies to build tools to access safety and connection. Sustainable relevant healing becomes possible and attainable.
