My name is Silas Norum-Gross (they/them) and I’m an LMSW and CASAC-T licensed in New York. I’m a white, trans/non-binary, anti-zionist, Jewish therapist. I’m committed to therapy that doesn’t feel one-sided, involves mutual vulnerability and investment and that is aware of the power imbalance that can exist in this dynamic. I’m not the expert, I’m simply another perspective with access to tools and resources.
On that note, in addition to providing therapy, I’m also well-versed in the resources available in New York and beyond, and can provide referrals for anything from gender-affirming care to nearby food pantries. My network includes not only other therapists, but herbalists, body workers and reiki practitioners. In addition to working in private practice, I was a substance use treatment counselor in the non-profit sector for four years, where I worked with a diverse range of people practicing a wide spectrum of harm reduction. I am also in recovery and advocate strongly for destigmatizing this lived experience.
Finally, as a white person, I am dedicated to a life of unlearning and educating myself so that I’m not just working, but living from an anti-racist and anti-capitalist place.
I also have an M.A. in Sociology, worked in food and service for years and was born-and-raised in New York City. I’m a nature lover, tarot reader and gardener.
