I’m Maya Attia, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California, working with adults and couples online throughout the state. My practice sits at the intersection of three areas most therapists aren’t trained in — and that most clients are exhausted from having to explain.
Kink and BDSM. I work with people navigating power exchange dynamics, Dom/sub relationships, role negotiation, aftercare, and the identity questions that come with desire that doesn’t fit a mainstream script. You won’t spend our sessions justifying what you’re into. We’ll move past that and into the actual work — whether that’s communication within a dynamic, shame you’ve been carrying, or figuring out what you actually want versus what you think you should want.
Ethical non-monogamy and polyamory. I support individuals and couples practicing ENM, polyamory, open relationships, and relationship anarchy. That includes navigating jealousy, building agreements that actually hold, managing multiple attachments, and working through ruptures — without being asked to simplify your life into something more conventional.
Neurodivergence. Many of my clients are ADHD, autistic, or AuDHD adults who’ve spent years masking in relationships. I understand how rejection sensitive dysphoria shows up in partnerships, how sensory overwhelm affects intimacy, and why the unspoken rules of traditional relationships can feel impossible to follow. We build structures that work for your brain — not against it.
These three areas overlap more than most people realize. Neurodivergent adults are disproportionately drawn to ENM and kink communities — often because explicit negotiation, direct communication, and clearly stated agreements feel safer and more honest than unspoken social scripts. If you live at that intersection, you don’t need a therapist who’s merely “open-minded.” You need one who already understands the territory.
My approach is collaborative, direct, and engaged. I work beneath surface behaviors to shift patterns — not just narrate them. Clients rarely leave a session without something concrete to carry forward.
I’ve been living and working within these communities for over a decade. This isn’t academic knowledge — it’s personal and professional experience combined with clinical training.
All sessions are online via secure video. No intake forms, no preliminary calls. If any of this resonates, reach out.
