Lanie centers her clinical focus around people who are experiencing depression, anxiety or other mood disorders, life-change adjustment disorders, identity clarification/resolution work, and pelvic pain and/or sexual dysfunction. She specializes in working with individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+, as well as with individuals, couples, triads, and other relationship configurations engaging in non-traditional relationship styles. This can include many forms of ethical non-monogamy, as well as relationships involving kink. In Lanie's office psychotherapy is viewed as a collaboration between the client and the therapist, and it is her perspective that many factors are involved in successfully creating change. These factors include the impact of intimate and social relationships, physical health, social/societal/cultural influences, and client personal values. Thus, psychotherapy is individualized and may integrate a number of theoretical perspectives, including interpersonal, stages of change, neurobiological, and humanistic processes. Lanie Hopping graduated from Spalding University in 2005 with a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology in the Child/Adolescent/Family track. She completed the Sexual Health Certificate Program (UMSHCP) Sex Therapy track and Sexual Health Education track at University of Michigan in 03/2017. She has a broad experiential background, and at the beginning of her career spent several years working with adolescents in a local residential treatment facility. Lanie has provided psychotherapy at a local community mental health care provider with children and families in crisis. She has also provided case management with clients suffering traumatic brain injury and intellectual disabilities. For the past four years Lanie has worked with people of all ages who were in crisis and seeking immediate crisis stabilization and resources related to their particular needs, as well as serving as an adjunct professor at a local professional college. She is delighted to return to providing psychotherapy full-time with Compass CAPS. When Lanie is not providing psychotherapy she enjoys cuddling with her herd of cats and dogs, spending quality time with her family and dear friends, volunteering for a local LGBTQIA+ organization, staying physically active (swimming, roller skating, yoga, aerial arts), creating fiber art (knitting/crochet), watching bad tv, and reading.
