LGBTQIA+, poly, and kink-affirming individual and partners psychotherapy

Kink knowledgeable, polyamory knowledgeable, queer and gender fluid therapist practicing in the East Bay. I have a passion for working with people from alternative and historically marginalized backgrounds and experiences, including, but not limited to:Coming out, or questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity; Identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, or queer;Being transgender, gender non-conforming, gender queer, gender fluid, or non-binary;Practicing alternative relationship structures, such as non-monogamy or kink/BDSM;Experiencing being othered or marginalized due to race or ethnicity;Practicing atheism, agnosticism, polytheism, or otherwise non-conforming spiritual or magick practice. Individual and Relationship Psychotherapy and Counseling

I have experience working with those who are exploring polyamory for the first time and those struggling to accept their own sexuality/sexual expression. These can be tricky things to navigate especially if you are also struggling with anxiety, depression, or other symptoms/diagnosis.

I am a kink/BDSM, swinger, poly, LGBTQ friendly therapist that helps individuals, couples, and relationship partners explore how they relate to alternative forms or sexual and relationship expression. I am PACT trained meaning I incorporate elements of psychobiology, neuroscience, attachment theory, and emotion regulation to help individuals and partners feel safe and confident in their lifestyles and dynamics. I am a psychologist specializing in polyamory and LGBTQIA identity, relationships, etc. as well as general psychological difficulties (i.e. depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar, life transitions). I work with individuals, partners, and groups. I use an eclectic approach that helps you understand and integrate your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and behaviors to help you become your most authentic self. I am very aware of the role being a minority, whether sexual, racial/ethnic, etc. has on mental health concerns and focus on self acceptance and empowerment as a healing force.

I have extensive experience in providing culturally competent and sensitive treatment. I work very well with individuals experiencing symptoms related to loss, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, life-transitions, addiction and the LGBTQ and BDSM community. I was very fortunate to receive my clinical training at a variety of settings which provided me the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life. I treat individuals and couples from many different backgrounds (ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, gender, nontraditional lifestyles, etc.) I also teach social and cultural diversity courses at local graduate programs. I received my Master's and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Individual, Couples and Family, at California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Los Angeles (Accredited by American Psychological Association). I completed my postdoctoral training at the Saturday Center for Psychotherapy. I'm licensed by the California Board of Psychology (PSY23715). I have found that exploring our interpersonal relationships, including the relationship between therapist and client, in the present moment, is highly effective in overcoming many of the conflicts people encounter in their lives. I will collaborate with you to determine the focus of treatment and use the approach that will suit you the most. I will work closely with you to help you learn about all of the different layers of your identity and help you accept yourself and feel more integrated in your daily life and intimate relationships. For example, we may work on increasing your self-acceptance related to your atypical erotic or gender orientation to help you embrace a more intimate relationship with another and to live a fuller and more peaceful life. We will work together to help you break old patterns and heal the wounds that you have been carrying for some time. Drawing from my 35+ year career as a professor of anthropology professor specializing in sexuality, gender, marriage and partnering patterns, I am offering my knowledge and deep analysis with singles, couples and multiple-partner configurations. I am especially skilled at working with culturally diverse populations and issues including Polygamy, Arranged Marriage vs. Love Marriage, Culturally Imposed Virginity, Polyamory, Swinging, Cheating, Sexual Assault Accusations, Cybersex/Sexting, BDSM/Kink practices and LBGTQ identities. My sessions offer a unique perspective drawing from years of research and teaching that can include reflection on history, culture, biology, psychology, ritual and spirituality. My goal is to enable you to understand the social, cultural and family structures that have led you to seek help.
