I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has been practicing in the Northern Virginia area for over 13 years. I own a private practice in Falls Churcg, VA where I see individuals as well as couples in my practice. In relation to kink issues, the goal of my practice is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals and couples to explore their relationships with dignity and respect for different forms of sexuality. Therapy can be a very effective treatment, provided you find a therapist who is the right fit for you. It is important that you find a therapist that you are able to trust and feel comfortable with so that you can use the sessions effectively. I am professionally trained listener who can help you get to the root of your problems, overcome challenges, and make positive changes in your life. Many people who seek therapy do not have a diagnosed mental health disorder, but are seeking support and help for everyday problems such as relationship problems, stress, and adjustment to life transitions. Elizabeth helps clients balance the challenges and changes of life. As each person and family is different, so is her approach. She tailors her work to the needs of clients and also includes recognized “best practice” and a holistic or “whole-person” approaches. Such methods might include: looking at support systems, physical fitness, teaching communication skills, sleep, self compassion, behavioral plans, incorporating more laughter in daily living, exploring workplace satisfaction, spending more time outside and the list goes on. Most clients comment on how Elizabeth's seemingly more relaxed, humorous and playful approach helps them reach their psychotherapy goals quickly and are often surprised by how psychotherapy can be enjoyable and rewarding. Elizabeth works with children of all ages, families, couples and individuals on a variety of issues. Some examples of these are: parenting at all stages of the life-cycle, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, separation and depression. More specifically, since 2004, Elizabeth has expanded her practice to include a reproductive mental health specialty. This includes working with families trying to have a child, miscarriage, infant loss, antenatal (during pregnancy) depression and anxiety, post partum mood disorders, adjustment to parenting and doing pre-fertility treatment assessments. Elizabeth, uses a “sex positive” perspective, and is also attuned to and has advanced training in issues of cultural sensitivity, including those of the LGBT or sexual minority community. During the course of her nearly 20 years as a practicing social worker, Elizabeth has worked in several different settings. Elizabeth is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Russian Language and Literature. She then attended The University of Michigan School of Social Work where she studied clinical practice. While not working, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her family, living in the woods of Manassas, hiking, gardening, swimming, reading, making music and of course laughing whenever possible. I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner with a long-standing history of treating patients across all spectrums of the kink community. I've learned the most from my patients who are LGBT, open/poly, and/or are in BDSM relationships so I would say those are the areas I have the most comfort working within. I particularly enjoy working with teens and young adults as they work to discover their sexual identities and teach them there are professionals who will care for them and treat them in ways that make sense for their particular needs rather than the heterosexual monogamous norms generally seen in healthcare.
